Going into Cheltenham 2020
Looking at the races leading up to Cheltenham 2020 and the results of these races, it is fair to say that some horses have really made themselves favorable to emerge victorious in Cheltenham. The Grade Two Silviniaco Conti Chase which took place in Kempton saw Frodon clinch gold. On the other hand, Andy Dufresne took the spoils at the Sky Bet Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle at Punchestown. With the results in from recent races, this is what the favorites look like for Cheltenham at the moment of writing.
The top favourite at this time is a horse named Carefully Selected which was at odds of 8/1 prior to the recent races and now most bookmakers have this horse at 6/1.
Second favorite is the winner of the Grade Two Silviniaco Conti Chase – Frodon. Prior to the Grade Two Silviniaco Conti Chase race day, bookmakers had Frodon at 12/1 and the odds currently have been shortened to 7/1
Third favorite goes to a horse named Never Adapt. Never Adapt was at odds of 16/1 and that has been halved currently. You’ll get odds of 8/1 on Never Adapt if you are to put money on it now.
Fourth favorite is Wolf Prince whose odds have been shortened from 16/1 to 10/1.
We also have Andy Dufresne who was an outsider at 16/1 but has now improved to 14/1 with most bookmakers.
This horse has really impressed in recent times after two consecutive wins at Punchestown recently. The second victory came during the Three Killiney Novice Chase. It is not just the fact that this runner won twice consecutively which makes it a favourite but also the fashion in which these wins were obtained. In the Grade Three Killeney Novice Chase, Carefully Selected left his competitors in the dust when he crossed the finish line an impressive 24 lengths ahead of the horse that came in second. This Irish horse seems more than ready for the Stamina test ahead at Cheltenham and at 6/1, he is the favourite to win the National Hunt Challenge Cup Amateur Riders’ Novices’ Chase in Cheltenham.
A closer look at Frodon
The Ryanair Chase is going to be one of the most competitive races in the Cheltenham 2020 festival, by the looks of it. The favorite, however, is Frodon who won this event in 2019. Frodon’s first two races of the season were average, but he really changed gears and showed what he can do under the guidance of Bryony Frost by winning the Silviniaco Conti Chase at Kempton.
He was in the lead and for a fleeting moment it looked like Top Notch and Keeper Hill could catch up, but Frodon had more left in the tank and comfortably pulled away to cross the finish line first.
Frodon was 12/1, but after his performance in the Silviniaco Conti Chase, his odds have been shortened to 7/1.
