Day 1 results

Champion Hurdle

First: Espoir D’Allen (M P Walsh) 18 – 1

Second: Melon P (P Townend) 22 – 1

Third: Silver Streak (Adam Wedge) 100 – 1

Day 2 results

Queen Mother Champion Chase

First: Altior (Nico de Boiinville) 4-11

Second: Politologue (H Cobden) 11 – 1

Third: Sceau Royal (D A Jacob) 16 – 1

Day 4 results

Gold Cup

First: Al Boum Photo (P Townend) 12 – 1

Second: Anibale Fly (B J Geraghty) 22 – 1

Third: Bristol De Mai (D A Jacob) 18 – 1

From these three main race events from Cheltenham 2020, it was only in the Queen Mother Champion Steeple Chase race that the bookmakers’favorite actually won. At 4 – 11, Altior (Nico de Boinville) was a strong favorite and did not disappoint when showtime came around. However, it goes to show that in most cases, the favourite is not necessarily going to be the winner.

Carefully Selected – this happens to be the name of the horse and we have actually also carefully selected this horse as the favorite for the Grade Three Killeney Novice Chase, and the book makers seem to agree with us (going by the currently published odds at most bookmakers). Carefully Selected is a serious contender after his two consecutive wins at Punchestown recently. In one of these wins, Carefully Selected totally dominated the field and finished the race an incredible 24 lengths ahead of the horse that came in second. For the National Hunt Chase, Carefully Selected has odds of 3/1.

Here are some odds of favorites for other runs. Supreme Novices Hurdle favorite is Envoi Allen with odds of 10/1, Arkle Trophy Favorite is Notebook with odds of 11/4, Ultima Handicap Chase favorite is Vinndication with odds of 7/1 and at 12/1 Benie Des Dieux is the favorite for the Champion Hurdle.

Frodon–Frodon will be running the Ryanair Chase and is our favorite to win. It is a closely contested race, but Frodon seems to have the edge on paper and we expect to see that translated onto the race track as well. Frodon was the winner of this event in 2019 as well. His most recent race was a convincing win against formidable runners like Top Notch and Keeper Hill in the Silviniaco Conti Chase.
