Cathedral Eye Clinic’s annual education day is back on the calendar — and for 2026 it landed at Galgorm.
Eye on Excellence 2026 brought optometrists from across the island of Ireland to the Galgorm Resort for a full clinical learning programme led by the clinic’s consultants and clinical team. The brief was practical and patient-first: shared care, trust, communication, and better outcomes when hospital specialists and community optometrists work as one network.
A day built for the people who see patients first
This is not a trade show for trade-show’s sake. Eye on Excellence is Cathedral’s yearly chance to put consultants and the clinical team in a room with the optometrists who sit at the front door of eye health across Northern Ireland and the Republic. Strengthening those connections is the point — so patients get clearer pathways and more consistent care wherever they start.
The clinic has long framed education as part of how it works with the wider profession. LoveBelfast has covered that streak before, from the previous Eye on Excellence gathering to Cathedral’s wider role as a Love Belfast and Love Dublin media partner on vision health. Recognition has followed too — including a Private Healthcare Awards shortlist.
Galgorm as the 2026 base
Hosting at Galgorm put the day in one of Northern Ireland’s best-known resort settings — a practical, comfortable base for colleagues who had travelled from across the island. The group left with the usual Eye on Excellence note: thanks for showing up, and eyes already on next year.
For Belfast readers, the story is simple. A Belfast clinic is investing in the optometrists who keep communities seeing clearly — and it is doing it island-wide, not just on its own doorstep. That is shared care with the handshake still in it.
