Downtown Radio and Cool FM’s Cash for Kids charity has teamed up with Harry Corry to launch 2016’s “Mission Christmas” appeal. Local listeners are being asked to buy one extra gift to help thousands of disadvantaged children across Northern Ireland who face waking up with nothing on Christmas morning. In 2015, the appeal distributed gifts to more than 8,800 local disadvantaged children in time for Christmas, and already in 2016 even more children have been applied for.
With 1 in 4 children in Northern Ireland living in poverty this December – described by Save the Children as living in a home with no central heating and going to bed at night without a hot meal – for many families, Christmas is simply a luxury they can’t afford. This year’s Mission Christmas aims to provide gifts to each child applied for and help make sure it can support as many children as possible across the country. You can donate your new unwrapped gift to any one of the drop off points listed at www.coolfm.co.uk/mission including any Harry Corry store.
Cash for Kids Charity Manager, Stephanie Laverty said: “Mission Christmas is a brilliant way for people to act in the true spirit of Christmas and give a little something to disadvantaged young people who really do deserve it. What was achieved by our generous listeners last year was truly amazing. Even one child living in poverty is too many but with thousands in Northern Ireland in that position, Mission Christmas gives everyone the opportunity to make a real difference.”
Harry Corry Marketing Manager, Mark Corry added “Harry Corry are proud to partner with Mission Christmas for another year, and help make a real difference to local children this Christmas. Each of our 17 stores will act as drop-off points for donations of new, unwrapped gifts until Monday 19thDecember.”
Those who don’t have time to shop can still support the appeal by texting FIVE to 70808 to make a £5 donation to the appeal. (Calls cost Standard network rate and 100% of the donation goes to CFK).
