The popular seaside town of Holywood has welcomed a new independent coffee shop onto its High Street – Cargo Coffee.

Cargo Coffee, the brainchild of Belfast Giants star Matt Towe, is the second outlet under the hip coffee brand and opens one year after its sister outlet, a specialty coffee and bagel drive-thru, first launched in Bangor.

The new sit-in eatery, which is located within Ferguson Flowers at 98-100 High Street, specialises in artisan coffee sourced from Belfast-based roasters Bailies. In addition, Cargo Coffee Holywood offers a menu which places a strong emphasis on hearty and homemade – with everything from signature rustic bagels with classic deli filling to soups, salads and baked goods.

The food is prepared fresh daily by Head Chef, Andrew Provan, formerly of Deanes Meat Locker, and Matt Towe, Owner of Cargo Coffee, said: “This is a truly exciting time for Cargo Coffee, having opened our second outlet within 12 months. We set out on a mission to bring specialty coffee and high quality, convenient food to the masses, and expanding our business to include the sit-in eatery will hopefully allow us to achieve this.

“When we heard that Ferguson Flowers were looking for a partner to take on the café within their store we jumped at the chance. Like us, Ferguson’s is a local brand striving to offer people a quality customer experience, so it felt like the perfect fit to partner with them.

“Our new Holywood outlet shares the same values and ethos of our drive-thru, delivering top-notch coffee and brunch combined with superb customer service. We’re also thrilled to have Andrew on board, and he is leading the way in curating a menu that will hopefully provide the people of Holywood and beyond with a taste of something different.”

Seven jobs have been created at Cargo Coffee Holywood, three of which include staff from the former Ferguson Flowers café.

Michael Ferguson, Owner of Ferguson Flowers, added: “We initially opened our Holywood store in May 2018 with a unique combination of coffee and flowers.  Since then, business has been booming and whilst we now focus on the flowers, we’re delighted to hand the reins over to Cargo Coffee. We’ve been a fan of this brand since it opened and we’re confident our existing and new customers will love what they bring to the shop.”

Cargo Coffee Holywood is open from 8.30am to 4.00pm Monday – Saturday, with a seated area for 32 diners. The space also features a dedicated grab-and-go area for takeaway coffee and food.
