The Belfast School of Performing Arts (BSPA) is taking on its most dramatic and demanding production to date as Northern Irelands top theatre school presents epic rock musical, Jesus Christ Superstar, in the grade 1 listed Carlisle Memorial Church from the 21 – 24 August.
This summer youth project draws a cast of young people aged between 14 – 22 years old, not only from the BSPA’s 7 schools in Belfast, Ballymena, Bangor and Lisburn but also from across the province and South of Ireland. They are rehearsing under the watchful and professional eye of BSPA Artistic Director Peter Corry who will be directing this powerful production. Peter is joined by Musical Director Ashley Fulton and Choreographer Neil O’Brien.
A preview to the show was recorded in the stunning setting of Carlisle Memorial Church, giving just a glimpse of the magic that will be made in the historical building.
BSPA Artistic Director, Peter Corry, is thrilled that the cast are challenging themselves artistically and are working so very hard to create a show they will never forget:
‘We at the BSPA have set the bar high for the students involved in the production of Jesus Christ Superstar; it is a raw, emotional and passionate show. I cannot wait to hear Andrew Lloyd Webbers music and Tim Rice’s lyrics in the haunting and beautiful space, the setting of Carlisle Memorial Church. I am confident this adaptation of the epic musical will give Belfast audiences an experience they will never forget and inspire the young people involved to continue and grow as performers.”
A signed performance will run on the evening of the 23 August.
