JUST BACK HOME FROM A SUNDAY NIGHT AWAY AT BISHOPS GATE AND WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. THE STAFF ARE ALL LOVELY AND WERE VERY HELPFUL.
Gary and Stephanie welcomed us, with valet car parking and then showed around the hotel. They were very helpful and friendly and made you feel special. All the staff in the hotel were brilliant and this is why the Hotel as recently been awarded the 2nd Best Hotel in the UK on TripAdvisor. Manager Ciaran and his fine team have achieved exactly what makes a classy hotel also feel warm and welcoming – capturing the essence of the hospitality, history, and humour unique to the City of Derry. Even the housekeeping staff went about their business with joy and enthusiasm which tells a story in itself.
Our room was a work of art – a grand statement of colour, style, comfort and luxury which combines the latest in 21st-century technology as one would expect from a hotel property of this calibre. A former gentleman’s club, most of the building’s original features – sweeping staircase, Inglenook fireplace, decorative panelling and mouldings – have been either retained or restored.
The Edwardian heritage of the hotel is reflected in the colour scheme of the room – a palette of elegant dove greys, muted moss greens, rich plums and decadent gold, accented by soft, natural textures, oversized velvet headboards and adorned with fine fabrics.
Our room equipped with all the facilities expected of a luxury boutique hotel including WiFi & flat screen Smart TV’s. The beds very comfortable and a big walk in shower.
We were dining at The Gown Restaurant
Fronting London Street, in the heart of the Cathedral Quarter, “The Gown” is the culinary focal point of Bishop’s Gate Hotel offering seasonally inspired menus of locally sourced ingredients, expertly prepared by the Executive Chef and his talented team.
This vibrant eatery is accessed via the hotel main entrance on Bishop Street and has several original features including the original wall panelling which has been superbly restored to create a charming dinner venue which oozes character and delivers a delightful ambience.
Signature dishes include char-grilled locally sourced steaks and fresh seafood from Greencastle Pier.
Diners have the option of a-la-carte cuisine or a two or three-course set menu. The restaurant is very family friendly and we felt very comfrotable dining with our 18 month old son.
Breakfast was served in The Gown, it’s table service for hot items, and freshly cooked to order, but there’s also a very high quality continental selection of cold breakfast items like fresh fruit, breads, meats, cheeses and juices and smoothies.
Great hotel central location with extremely friendly staff and fabulous food and service . This hotel is a bench mark for any hotel that wants to tick all the boxes, every element is very well thought out and put together to create a truly fantastic product in the heart of Derry City.
Well done Bishops Gate!
