“Big Strong Man is a big, strong song with a big, strong sound…..a little bit playful, a little bit sexy and a lot of fun.” Gigging NI
After exploding onto the live music scene in May 2013, Amanda St John and her band are delighted to announce the release of her new single ‘Big Strong Man’ on the 3rd March 2014. The song is a fun, upbeat (almost verging on rockabilly) style shuffle. The song was recorded and produced my Michael Mormecha of NI band Mojo Fury.
Amanda is launching the single at this year’s Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival with a headline gig in The Harp Bar on Sunday the 2nd March. (See details below)
Her debut EP ‘Where is The Man’ was released in June 2013 (produced by acclaimed singer-songwriter Gareth Dunlop) and has received excellent reviews and airplay from NI radio stations. Ralph McLean from BBC Radio Ulster has described her as “A wonderfully talented songwriter” and in an EP review from Culture NI they described her as “an emerging artist destined to write a long musical story”. Songs from her EP have been played by Stuart Bailie on BBC Radio Ulster, George Jones on Downtown Radio, Chris Barber on Blast 106 as well as recording live sessions for Barry Knowler on U105 as well as Gerry Kelly and Ralph McLean (both from BBC Radio Ulster).
This dynamic singer has been performing live with acoustic ensembles and cover bands since the age of 14, and has built up her reputation as a live artist by performing all over the country. Over the years, Amanda has collaborated with a number of renowned Northern Irish musicians, working with Duke Special, Ben Glover, Simon McBride, and Ciaran Gribbin (of INXS), who described her as “a wonderful songwriter with a truly stunning voice”.
2013 was very successful in terms of festival performances for Amanda and her band. The year was started by sell out shows in Belfast Nashville Festival and a support slot for Bap Kennedy at The Holywood Festival. This summer she performed at The Sunflower Festival, The Maiden City Festival, Hilden Beer Festival, The East Belfast Arts Festival, The Lammas Fair, The Atlantic Sessions Festival and Belfast Music Week. Highlights of her year have been supporting US Grammy Nominee Tift Merritt in concert, being invited to sing backing vocals for Duke Special and a two night support slot for Brian Kennedy at the end of January 2014.
