Belfast’s flagship shopping centre is calling on shoppers, staff and City Centre workers to

visit its inaugural blood donor session on Tuesday 24

As part of its on-going commitment to helping local charities and the community, CastleCourt

has invited the Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service to use an unoccupied unit to host

a city centre blood donor session to make it easier for city centre workers, shoppers and

CastleCourt staff to give blood.

Paul McElkerney, Donor Recruitment and Organisation Manager from the Northern

Ireland Blood Transfusion Service, said:

“We’re delighted to work with CastleCourt to host this important service. In Northern Ireland,

around 500 patients need lifesaving blood each week. To ensure an adequate supply to our

hospitals, we need 300 to come forward every day, so an opportunity to provide access to a

donor session to the thousands of people who walk through CastleCourt’s doors every day is

“No-one knows when they or someone in their family might need blood, so I would ask

everyone who can, to take the time to give blood and save a life. It only takes around 45

minutes and if you give blood today, you will have saved a life within four days.”

Speaking about the donor session, CastleCourt’s Centre Director, Paul McMahon

“We all recognise the importance of blood donation. However, there are still many people

who do not donate blood because they struggle to find the time or a near-by session. We

are hosting this donor session to encourage customers and staff to give blood and play a

massive role in saving the lives of people throughout Northern Ireland and I hope to see

many of the hundreds of CastleCourt staff supporting this important project.”

The session will take place on Tuesday 24

between the age of 17 and 65 can give blood for the first time and can continue to donate

three times a year with no upper age limit.
