Belfast’s Titanic Quarter was a kaleidoscope of colour today as thousands of people jogged, walked, and danced their way round the five kilometre course of The Color Run presented by Dulux.
With no winners or official times, and a focus on healthiness, individuality, and giving back to the community, the event truly lived up to its reputation as the world’s happiest and most colourful 5km run.
Runners of all shapes, sizes and speeds started wearing white clothing, a blank canvas for the rainbow of colours they encountered around the course. At each kilometre a different colour of powder was thrown in the air as the runners became a constantly evolving artwork. At the end of the course runners were greeted by the Colour Festival where the air was filled with music and stunning coloured powder bursts creating a vibrant party atmosphere.
Event organiser and Irish native Joe Rafferty said, “We’re really proud to have brought The Color Run to Belfast. Today’s event showed how much everyone enjoys a bit of colourful fun in their lives. With the number of locations set to double in 2014 due to overwhelming enthusiasm and demand, we’ll be coming to Dublin and even more locations in Ireland next year!”
Hydrated by Vita Coco Coconut Water, the official hydration partner, everyone basked in the Belfast sunshine as they made their way around the colourful course at Belfast’s Titanic Quarter. Thousands of colour runners from all over the UK are raising money for Stand Up To Cancer, the event’s official charity campaign partner, to help fund clinical trials which will take place across the UK and bring breakthroughs from the lab bench to the patient sooner – bringing forward the day when all cancers are cured.
Last month, The Color Run in Belfast was launched by Irish internationals Paddy Wallace, Tom Court, Craig Gilroy and Chris Henry at the Titanic Quarter, Belfast. The players got a sneak preview of what the people of Belfast can look forward to this coming weekend.
Ulster and Ireland’s Paddy Wallace said, “The shoot was loads of fun which is what The Color Run is all about. It’s a great way to get some exercise with all your friends and family, enjoy yourselves and importantly it’s also a brilliant way to raise money for a good cause which is why we are delighted to lend our support to Stand Up To Cancer.”
Belfast marks the third location in The Color Run 2013 calendar following successful events in both London and Manchester this summer. Next stop on The Color Run trail is Brighton on the 14th September, where there are limited late entry spaces available. To register, go to www.thecolorrun.co.uk/brighton.
Jenny Hall, Dulux Marketing Controller, said: “We feel passionately about the positive impact colour can have on us and the places in which we live. Being able to bring The Color Run to Belfast today was another way for us to bring our mission of ‘adding colour to people’s lives’ to life. We look forward to spreading the joy of colour at The Color Run’s final 2013 destination next month.”
Global athletics brand New Balance is the official sportswear supplier for The Color Run in Belfast this weekend. New Balance’s involvement follows on from their recent partnership with Athletics Ireland which sees the sportswear brand supply the Irish track and field team with a full selection of team wear for use in competition in all Irish events, World Championships and European Championships.
“New Balance was delighted to help bring a splash of colour to Belfast by supporting The Color Run,” says Jon Ram, New Balance’s EMEA Managing Director. “The Color Run’s ideals of adding a rainbow of colour to health and fitness, resonate with our own philosophy of Runnovation and creatively promoting wellbeing through running and sport. We are thrilled to be the official footwear partner, co-presenting The Color Run as it comes to Belfast for the first time.
