The Stena Line Belfast Giants defeated Mora IK of Sweden 3-1 in Saturday’s opening exhibition game of the 2019/20 season. With the Champions League now less than two weeks away, the Giants impressed in the first of four exhibition games.
The Giants goals came from Ben Lake, Patrick Mullen and Kevin Raine as the hosts deservedly took the win against their skilful Swedish opposition.
Shane Owen started in the Belfast net with the Giants icing a full line up.
Lake Nets First Goal In Teal
It was new signing Ben Lake who would net the opening goal in the game thanks to his solo effort on the powerplay at 7:04.
Niki Petti drew the visitors level at 15:32, assisted by Anton Schagerberg with the honours even at the end of the opening 20 minutes.
Giants Strike The Next Blow
The Giants regained the lead at 26:31 through Patrick Mullen. Bobby Farnham and Lewis Hook combined well, dished the puck to Mullen who hammered home a one-timer past Isak Wallin in the Mora net.
Belfast Extend Lead
The Belfast third and final goal came at only 85 seconds into the final period when Kevin Raine slotted home, assisted by Patryk Wronka and Ben Lake.
