Join Lord Mayor Máirtín Ó Muilleoir and special guests as Belfast lights up for Christmas.

This year’s entertainment will be hosted by Cool FM’s Pete Snodden, who will be joined by Peppa Pig and her little brother George and Channel 5’s Milkshake kids’ TV presenters.

There’s a performance by cast members from Peter Corry’s The Music Box: A Christmas Extravaganza, including Jeff Anderson (star of ITV’s Jesus Christ Superstar). You’ll also hear the Belfast Operatic Society, who’ll be performing a song from their latest show, A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, and local Belfast girl Kirstin Aston.

This was a free ticketed event.

You’ll be able to pick up tickets in person from the Belfast Welcome Centre, 47 Donegall Place from 9am on Wednesday 6 November.

You can also book tickets online through Visit Belfast’s website (maximum of four per person).

If you book online, you must pick up your tickets before 3pm on Sunday 10 November. We will reallocate any tickets that haven’t been collected by this time (for collection in person only).

Access to the event

Access to the event site is via three colour coded entrances:

  • red wristband access via Donegall Square West-Wellington Place only
  • green wristband access via Donegall Place only
  • blue wristband access via Donegall Square East-Chichester Street only
  • yellow wristband (accessible viewing area only) access via Donegall Square-Donegall Square West only.
Lord Mayor Mairtin O Muilleoir joins Belfast City Council's elves (Amy Pue and Michael McGroarty) for the launch of this year's Christmas celebrations, which will start with the official Christmas Lights Switch On, featuring Peppa Pig, on Saturday November 16.  Tickets for the event will be available from the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre from 9am this coming Wednesday (November 6).

Accessible viewing

There is an accessible viewing area on the Donegall Square West side. You need to request tickets for this viewing area. Tickets are limited to one plus carer for this area and can be booked by emailing tickets@visit-belfast.comfrom 9am on Wednesday 6 November. The number of available tickets is limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

City Hall illumination

This year’s event will be even more spectacular with the City Hall illuminations. This project features low-energy LED floodlights on the facade, main dome and turrets which allow the building and its beautiful architectural features to be illuminated in a variety of colours and combinations.

Key reminders for wristband holders

  • Please wrap up warm as this is an outdoor standing event.
  • Event will begin at 6.45pm and end at 7.45pm.
  • Peppa Pig and her little brother George will be on stage for fifteen minutes.
  • There is no dedicated car parking at this event.
  • Blue badge parking is suspended all day Saturday 16 November on Donegall Place.
  • Site opens at 6.10pm (we advise you to come before 7.10pm).
  • The taxi rank on Donegall Square North will move to Donegall Square East (beside Ulster Bank) from 2pm on Saturday 16 November.
  • Traffic diversions will be in place from 5.30pm on Saturday 16 November.
