A team of budding entrepreneurs from Friends’ School have set up an exciting new business as part of this year’s Young Enterprise Company Programme. They are called ActiKids and are operating as a private limited company which was established at the beginning of October 2014.
They are team of 10 enthusiastic and young entrepreneurs whom since their establishment last year, they have been working extremely hard to produce their high quality product. ‘Around the world in 50 pages’ – A children’s activity journal that looks at the world around us. (As the name may suggest).
Their Managing Director Jake Lewis commented: “Our aim is to educate children about the world around us, helping them to learn about different cultures and countries through a series of fun facts and activities”.
It wasn’t just by chance that they decided to make this product; they carried independent primary research and discovered a gap in a thriving market for such a product. They are, as a result of their research, intending to target primary school children aged between 6 and 10.
The team intend to market their product in a number of ways, including the use of e-commerce, through their website (which will be launched very soon) and social networking sites as well as using local primary schools as distribution channels to help generate sales revenue.
They also intend to sell their activity books at trade fairs across Northern Ireland as well as to local businesses. The company’s Marketing team are actively exploring opportunities to sell their product through high street book retailers such as Easons and Waterstones. They have already been successful in arranging a launch event for their book with Waterstones in Lisburn. This event will take place on Thursday the 12th February at 6pm and they would very appreiciative if you could show your support at this event.
ActiKids will also be selling their books at Bangor Bloomfield Shopping Centre on Thursday the 5th of February as well asRushmere Shopping Centre on the 6th of February.
The company is activity setting up an online payment system on their soon to be released website which you will be able to purchase from in the very near future.
