Cancer Fund for Children, EUROSPAR retailers and Q Radio’s Ibe Sesay are saying a huge “thank you” to shoppers who attended the recent Your Community Supermarket Coffee Morning in aid of Northern Ireland’s leading children’s cancer charity.

£36,000 was raised on the day to support children, young people and their families living with cancer in Northern Ireland. To say “thank you” to all who attended and donated, EUROSPAR produced a video of retailers, fundraisers, Ibe Sesay from Q Radio, and siblings Molly (11) and Matthew (7) Taylor all raising a cup to thank everyone involved. Molly and her family have been supported by Cancer Fund for Children after Molly was diagnosed with cancer in 2014.  She attended the coffee morning at her local EUROSPAR Cullybackey.

The vital funds could provide 36 families living with cancer with a short break at Cancer Fund for Children’s therapeutic short break centre, Daisy Lodge, in Newcastle, Co. Down; it could help provide up to 70 families with a travel for treatment grant, to help those families who need to travel outside of Northern Ireland for treatment or surgery; or it could help deliver a years’ worth of residential support for young people living with cancer at the charity’s log cabin Narnia, in Newcastle Co. Down.

On 25 March, almost 15,000 Barista Bar coffees were served with 6,612 enjoy local traybakes, across 45 stores in exchange for a donation to Cancer Fund for Children.

Q Radio broadcasted live from EUROSPAR Saintfield Road in Lisburn with Ibe Sesay, giving out goodie bags and chatting with several shoppers and fundraisers from the charity.

Ulster and Ireland captain Rory Best was the guest of honour, fresh off the back of the RBS Six Nations Championship, and lent his support to the initiative which brought donations in their droves.

Head of Brand Marketing, Bronagh Henderson said; “The inaugural Coffee Morning in aid of Cancer Fund for Children was a huge success, we are delighted that our retailers, staff and shoppers all supported the initiative and made it the success it was.”

Joanne McCallister Director of Income Generation for Cancer Fund for Children added; “EUROSPAR has been one of our longest standing and most successful corporate partnerships, raising £700,000 to date. This latest total will help us provide invaluable support to local families to help them cope with the impact cancer has on their lives, right here in Northern Ireland. Thank you to everyone who turned out, embraced the coffee morning and donated to Cancer Fund for Children ensuring that local children and families don’t have to face cancer alone.”
