Award-winning start-up, Get The Shifts, announces its arrival to Northern Ireland
Southern company, Get The Shifts, has today announced it will provide 250 casual roles in Northern Ireland across the hospitality and events sector, over the next 12 months. Its first major contract is with Best Parties Ever, a UK entertainment concept transforming South 13 on the Boucher Road into a Masquerade Ball event over the Christmas period. This activity will see the company provide 5000 hours’ worth of shifts and recruit 150 Belfast-based staff. Today’s announcement signals the company’s first out-of-Ireland activity with Great Britain, and particularly hospitality hotspot, Manchester, key for early 2019.
The award-winning, tech-centric staffing solution was founded in 2016 and is shaking up the hospitality sector by supporting bars, restaurants, cafes, festivals, hotels and other businesses to connect with and source trained, temporary hospitality staff in their area, on demand over smartphone. Part of the growing gig economy, the start-up has already created over 700 roles in Ireland for bar staff, wait staff, event staff, promo staff, baristas, mixologists, chefs and kitchen porters and housekeepers, with a view to increasing this to 1,200 over the next 12 months.
The start-up’s innovative technology helps its clients not only to source staff but to manage those they hire, removing all administration, making the process both time-effective and cost-effective. A business can browse through hundreds of trained, pre-screened staff, known as superstars, using filters such as area, age and skill set. Once a match has been found, a business offers the available shift directly from the app on smartphone or desktop. Superstars then accept the shifts they want checking-in and out through GPS. Clients can add superstars to their favourites list so they are easy to find again, as well as rate a superstars performance. Get The Shifts then looks after a superstar’s payment once the shift has been completed and signed off by the business.
Founder of Get The Shifts, Hannah Wrixon said: “We are incredibly excited to expand into Northern Ireland with our first activity scheduled for Belfast at the end of this year. It’s as rewarding as it is motivating for us to see this growth and the impact we continue to have on employment in the hospitality sector. Northern Ireland has a thriving hospitality market with excellent talent in its major cities and hospitality hubs across the region and as a result is a promising market for us.
“However, Northern Ireland is not exempt from the historic problems that exist in hospitality when it comes to staffing and resourcing. From trying to forecast the right number of staff on any given day, to combating no-show employees, and from talent shortages to the fluid nature of the industry, the reality is that businesses are in constant need of reliable, trained staff.
“Not only do we save businesses time and money where resourcing is concerned, we also spend the time training and preparing our staff so they are shift ready when the opportunity calls. We recruit and train our staff and then offer our staff, known as Superstars, to businesses in need as they need them. Our Superstars include those already in the industry in need of additional hours, those looking to break into the industry, students and stay-at-home parents who need a role with low-commitment level, those looking to learn a new skill and more, so we have an incredibly varied portfolio of staff to suit a wide variety of businesses and brands. We’re really looking forward to working with Northern Ireland’s impressive hotels, bars, restaurants and festivals over the coming months, and of course recruiting local superstars to join the fold.
“With Christmas is just around the corner so we’re calling out to anyone who would like the opportunity to avail of flexible shifts to get in touch.”
Get The Shifts’ portfolio of staff not only have the opportunity to learn on the job, but also learn new skills or upskill, supporting them to move into permanent employment in the hospitality industry. The company has invested with Dulann, an award-winning online learning company, to develop interactive and engaging eLearning programmes, which are available to superstars at approximately 10% of the standard cost.
